Macomb County Inter-Agency Council
HISTORY AND PURPOSE

The Macomb County Inter-Agency Council was formed in 1964 by concerned Macomb County area citizens and human service agencies. Since IAC's inception, various programs have been established as a result of Council activities to fulfill unmet service needs within Macomb County.

The purpose of the Macomb County Inter-Agency Council (IAC) is to serve as a forum to discuss problems, concerns, and programs of mutual interagency interest in Macomb County:

- To inform members of important social issues and to

  implement actions on such issues where it is deemed

  necessary and appropriate;

- To enrich professional growth within the membership;

- To allow opportunity for communication and fellowship

  between members of all agencies within Macomb County

  and to improve agency use of other social resources;

- To acquaint all agencies and service groups of each

  other's functions.

Examples of programs and projects initiated or enhanced by Council contributions are:

- Macomb Essential Transportation System (METS)

- Emergency Food Resource Program (EFP)

- Turning Point Domestic Violence Shelter

- Soup Kitchen Program

COUNCIL ACTIVITIES

Each year the Macomb Inter-Agency Council strives to identify areas of human service concern within Macomb County with an emphasis on initiating a service, program, or advocacy effort to help alleviate problem areas. Typically, the Council forms committees of interested members to address identified human service need areas.

In addition, the Council through regular speakers, a newsletter and monthly meetings affords members the opportunity to increase their knowledge about other county agencies and service groups while enriching their professional growth.

Regular council meetings are held from September through June, the second Wednesday of each month, at various locations throughout Macomb County from 11:30 A.M. - 1:00 P.M.

The Macomb County Youth Council is a Subcommittee of the IAC and focuses on youth issues.
